LI snowplow crashes into utility pole, sparking fire at nearby ice rink

A Long Island snowplow crashed into a utility pole during a winter-storm cleanup Sunday — leaving hundreds of people without power and an ice rink on fire.The accident happened in Kings Park around 8 a.m.and sent live wires falling to the ground and the wooden pole leaning over at a 45-degree angle, according to News 12 Long Island.About 650 people instantly lost power.And in the nearby Super Ice Rink, the wreck and power loss sparked a fire in its basement.Flames spread to the first floor, and the place had to be evacuated before the fire was put out.No injures were reported from the fire.“We were getting ready to start the day when the power went out really quick,” local Mike Belling told the outlet.“Then we heard the sirens, multiple horns and trucks one after another from the fire department,” he added.The road was closed throughout the morning as crews made repairs.Most of the households have had their power restored.Long Island saw upwards of 5 inches of snow over the weekend....
