Yankees give pair of intriguing prospects minor league invites to spring training

The Yankees camp that opens Tuesday, when pitchers and catchers report, has grown a bit larger.The Yankees announced Sunday that they invited catcher Ronaldo Hernández and lefty Jayvien Sandridge to major league spring training, bringing the attendance to 69.Hernández is a 27-year-old who has spent nine seasons in the minors and still is looking for his MLB debut.Last year, he played 63 games with the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate and hit well, posting a .864 OPS with 11 home runs.Sandridge, 25, owns a career 3.87 ERA in six minor league seasons with Baltimore, Cincinnati and San Diego.Sandridge walks a lot of batters and strikes out even more.Last season, with the Padres’ Double-A and Triple-A teams, he walked 49 and struck out 95 in 61 innings, in which he finished with a 4.28 ERA....
