Anthony Davis out indefinitely with injury suffered in Mavericks debut

If the Mavericks were hoping that Anthony Davis’ stellar play would help calm down the anger in Dallas over trading Luka Doncic, they’ll have to come up with another way to do that.Davis, acquired as part of the highly unpopular Doncic trade, will be out for multiple weeks due to a left adductor strain, ESPN reported Sunday night. The NBA big man had already been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Kings and now looks like he could be away from the court for a month. Davis left Saturday’s game against the Rockets — his Mavericks debut — with 1:37 let in the third quarter.He had put up 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks in an outstanding performance for his new team. Davis previously seemed to be a bit more optimistic about his status going forward on Saturday when he spoke with reporters and explained he was “very confident” that it wouldn’t set him back. “Just the leg got tight, like a little spasm,” Davis said.“Just came back and tried to get it loose and everything.

I’m fine.”Now that Davis is sidelined, it means he will need to be replaced in the upcoming NBA All-Star Game that is taking place in San Francisco later this month. It will fall upon NBA commissioner Adam Silver to select two injury replacements, one for Davis and the other for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is dealing with a calf strain. Davis has averaged 25.7 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 52.8 percent from the field in 43 games this season for the Lakers and Mavs....
