Jalen Hurts’ Super Bowl 2025 MVP award wasn’t unanimous in the locker room after the Eagles’ 40-22 rout of the Chiefs in New Orleans on Sunday.Philadelphia pass-rusher Josh Sweat, who pressured Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes throughout the game, thought the Super Bowl MVP award should’ve gone to him.“I should’ve had it,” Sweat told the Philadelphia Inquirer.“I could’ve had it.
It’s all good, though.”He didn’t elaborate further.Sweat, 27, put on a defensive clinic against Kansas City that was worthy of MVP honors. He tallied a team-high six pressures on 34 pass rushes, including a career-high 2.5 sacks and six tackles.Mahomes was sacked a career-high six times, took 11 hits and committed three turnovers. The Eagles’ defense, under masterful play-calling by Vic Fangio, held the Chiefs scoreless until the final minute of the third quarter.“He was awesome,” Fangio said of Sweat.“He’s been awesome all year.
He’s a tough son of a [bleep], a real warrior type of guy, and I really, really love him.”Sweat received three MVP votes among the 16 total voters. The fan vote had Sweat third behind Hurts and rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, who had a pick-six against the Chiefs.Hurts was clutch in key moments when the Chiefs limited running back Saquon Barkley, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback was also the Eagles’ leading rusher with 72 yards on 11 attempts for 6.5 yards per carry.Hurts, who’s in the midst of a post-Super Bowl media tour, has yet to address Sweat’s comments.
Sweat, who is a free agent this offseason, explained that he’s more focused on his fit within a team.“Money’s important, sure, but I want to be in the right situation,” he said.“I don’t know what it looks like for me now, but I’m happy.”The Eagles will have a Super Bowl victory parade in Philadelphia on Friday....
