Trump should demand Bragg is axed in any deal with Hochul

If Gov.Kathy Hochul really wants to swing a dirty deal with President Trump to save her “congestion” tolls, she probably needs to offer more than just not delaying the election to the North Country seat in the House.May we suggest she throw in Alvin Bragg?That is, the gov should at long last remove the Manhattan district attorney from his duties for cause — namely, to protect public safety.Restoring safety is core to saving New York City, something dear to the president’s heart.But Bragg has shown consistently he is on the side of the criminal, not the victim.

Witness his stubborn insistence on under-prosecuting just about everyone not named Daniel Penny or Donald Trump.He’s even soft on antisemites.Yes, Hochul should’ve canned Bragg years ago.But we expect a governor who claims that Republicans are somehow to blame for the uncertainty over setting a special election for Elise Stefanik’s seat will manage to find an explanation for doing it now.It’s a pot-sweetener for the prez for obvious reasons.Another of Bragg’s abuses of office was his Ahab-like pursuit of Trump in the “hush money” case, where the DA invented new “tough” legal doctrines left and right in his effort to land the Great Orange Defendant.That abuse, for what it’s worth, is another fully substantive reason to oust Bragg.Between them, he and state Attorney General Tish James have every legitimate New York business worried that they could face legal persecution simply for offending the progressive powers-that-be.That’s yet another drag on the local economy that New York absolutely doesn’t need.Getting rid of it might at least partly defray the woeful economic impact of Hochul’s $9-on-its-way-to-$15 toll for entering Manhattan’s business district.Heck, the governor could ax Bragg right now, in advance of any deal with Trump: A show of good faith is always a great way to start negotiations....
