A new NASCAR season opens today — if the rain holds off, that is.At the time of writing, the Daytona 500 is still set to go today with a slight time adjustment — 1:30 p.m.
ET instead of the previously announced 2:30 p.m.ET start time.
The Daytona 500 is the first race in the 36-race season, which is the first one to allow more than 40 drivers in a race thanks to a new Open Exemption Provisional rule that went into place.The OEP allows world-class drivers a guaranteed starting position in a race (in which they can’t receive playoff points, prize money, or race points for) as long as the request is put in at least 90 days before the race of choice.
