Pete Alonso hypes up Steve Cohen-owned NY TGL squad with Mets-flavored intro

Perhaps it’s a sign of things to come for the Mets. Pete Alonso appeared to bring Steve Cohen’s TGL team a stroke of good luck Tuesday night after he led the New York Golf Club out into the arena for its match against Jupiter Links Golf Club.Alonso, along with Cohen and Mets stars Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo, were on hand for the TGL match at SoFi Center, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a 30-minute trip down the road from the team’s spring training facility in Port St.Lucie.Alonso led the New York team — that features Rickie Fowler, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Cam Young — into the TGL Arena as Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet’s hit song “Narco” blared from the PA system. The song has become intertwined with the Mets and reliever Edwin Diaz, who uses it as his walkout music at Citi Field. Alonso, the Mets first baseman, hyped up the New York Golf Club on the entire walk out into the arena before he fist-bumped each of the players. Whether or not it was Alonso’s presence, the New York squad picked up its first win in the franchise’s history in a 10-3 victory over Jupiter, which is led by golf legend Tiger Woods. “We did what we wanted to do coming out,” Fowler told the league website.

“We wanted to get out to a better start than we have and get ahead.That’s a lot more fun than the last two matches in here, for sure.”Along with the Mets, new Hall of Fame inductee CC Sabathia was on hand to watch the match. McNeil has a strong connection with the sport of golf, being an enthusiast and having won the celebrity division of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando last year. In 2023, McNeil competed in the New York State Open at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale during the MLB All-Star break. MLB spring camps fully opened up this week, with plenty of expectations resting on the shoulders of the Mets and their star-studded roster....
