Long Islanders celebrate ahead of Wegmans grocery store opening: It is my entire life

Long Island’s first-ever Wegmans is slated to open next week — and Suffolk County residents can’t romaine calm.The 101,000-square-foot grocery store is slated to open near the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove on Feb.26 at 9 a.m.“WEGGS IS MY ENTIRE LIFE,” one enthused local posted to X.

“I USED TO DRIVE 2 HOURS INTO JERSEY JUST GET IT.” Another ecstatic Long Islander quipped that the new supermarket is all he and his wife can think about — other than their daughter.Others joked about wanting to take a date to the beloved chain.“Just wanna go to Long Islands first Wegmans with you smh,” an X quipped. “I can’t WAIT for our Wegmans to open close to me!” a Suffolk Wegmans stan also posted.Another future customer expressed heartfelt gratitude for “coming to Long Island.”The Rochester-based grocery chain — which had Manhattainites waiting outside at 4 a.m. for the unveiling of its first-ever Big Apple flagship location in 2023 — boasted it’s brand new location will bring 500 jobs to the island.“We have been actively hiring and training new employees and are seeking more enthusiastic candidates to complete our team before opening day,” store manager Dawn Cooper said of the store, which will open at 3270 Middle Country Road.It took about three years to get Long Island’s first Wegman’s ready to debut, News12 reported.The Lake Grove site “will feature all the traditional departments Wegmans customers have come to know and love,” according to the grocery store.

This will include restaurant-style pizza, sushi, sandwiches, salads, and more prototypical deli, seafood, and produce sections.“I’m dying to see what the hype is about,” a prospective future fan wrote online....
