Violent career criminal given $250K bail after he allegedly tried to rape woman on Manhattan subway

A violent recidivist sicko accused of trying to rape a woman on a Times Square subway was given $250,000 bail at his arraignment on felony charges Saturday night.Tyriek Martin, a 34-year-old homeless man who’s been busted at least 70 times, appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court late Saturday before Judge Robert Rosenthal on first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sexual abuse and third-degree assault charges.Rosenthal set bail at $250,000 at the request of prosecutors.He was held in jail, though being given a bail amount, as opposed to being remanded, gives the mentally ill perp with a felony-strewn rap sheet dating back to 2006 a chance to return to the streets.Martin was the only other person on the northbound W train approaching the Times Square-42 Street subway station on Thursday just before noon when he smashed the female straphanger’s head against a pole, police and law enforcement sources said Friday.He then threw her to the ground, climbed on top of her and tried to sexually assault her, they said.“She pushed him off her,” Assistant District Attorney Ellery Marrey told the court, explaining that Martin dropped his pants to his ankles as he pulled her down by her legs.“He proceeded to press himself against her from behind, pants still down, and the defendant pushed his lower body up and down on the complainant in a humping motion.”The victim struggled and screamed for help as the train pulled into the major transit hub, a police source said, leading to several nearby good Samaritan construction workers rushing to her aid and holding the alleged rapist down until the cops arrived.The victim, who suffered a fractured nose in the brutal midday attack, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, cops and prosecutors said.The more than minute-long attack was captured on video surveillance.“The defendant has an extensive criminal record outside of this incident’s charged conduct,” Marrey said.“He has 34 misdemeanor convictions and 9 failure...
