Max Tsyplakov sets record straight to Post on Islanders contract talks

Nyet just yet on that contract extension.After Max Tsyplakov’s agent in Russia, Alexander Chernykh, told Sport Express he was working on an extension with the Islanders last week, Tsyplakov put the brakes on things for the time being.“We don’t talk with the Islanders,” Tsyplakov told The Post before the Islanders’ season resumed on Sunday against the Stars.“You have time after season.

We don’t rush.”Per a translation of his agent’s interview, done by The Hockey News, Chernykh said, “The Islanders are ready to extend the contract.They’ve talked to us already.”The 26-year-old later indicated that the sides were working toward a figure of $3 million annually, a big jump from the $950,000 Tsyplakov is making as a rookie.

That would be in line both with the salary cap jumping this summer and with Tsyplakov having adapted to the NHL and playing solidly in a middle-six role for the Islanders, with seven goals and 18 assists in 51 games entering Sunday.As a restricted free agent this summer, the likelihood is Tsyplakov does stay on Long Island, and his saying he wants to wait until after the season to re-sign should not be taken to mean he’s hesitant about doing so.“I like everything,” Tsyplakov said of his time with the Islanders so far.“I like locker room, guys, coach, management.

All good.I like this.”Asked whether he was ruling out signing in-season altogether, Tsyplakov didn’t directly say yes, but continued to indicate that wasn’t the plan.“I think first option, we make playoffs,” he said.
