5 teens arrested after stray bullet pierces ceiling and strikes sleeping woman in the Bronx

Five teenagers were arrested after a stray bullet cut through an apartment ceiling in the Bronx and struck a sleeping woman in the forehead on Sunday night.The stray bullet reportedly flew into the first-floor apartment from the floor above inside a residential building on Purdy Avenue near Metropolitan Avenue in Parkchester, police said.The victim, a 55-year-old woman, suffered a graze wound to the head as she was asleep in bed, according to cops.
She hadn’t even realized she’d been shot until she woke up to find her forehead bleeding profusely, her family told the New York Daily News.The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center and is in stable condition, the NYPD said.The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still unclear.Police named three of the arrested suspects — Dezmon Frazer, Kiron Valerio, and Tyquon Williams — who are all 19 years old and live in the Bronx.The identities of two 17-year-old male suspects were kept confidential because they are still minors.All five were charged with fault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.It has not been decided if the minors will be charged as adults.
