Fin-tastic! Mind-blowing superpod of 2,000 dolphins leap and frolic off California coast

Nature lovers are flipping for this rare dolphin footage!A “mind-blowing” superpod of thousands of the marine mammals were spotted jumping and frolicking off the coast of California — turning even seasoned ocean experts into awe-struck fans.“We were so excited, it was hard to hold in our emotions.We had the biggest grins from ear to ear,” said Evan Brodsky, captain of the tour boat company Monterey Bay Whale Watch, which captured the footage.Brodsky and his crew were sailing in Monterey Bay, south of San Francisco, Friday when they saw roughly 2,000 of the Northern right whale dolphins, which have no dorsal fins, swimming with their babies, he said.

A breathtaking mix of Pacific white-sided dolphin were also spotted breaching and leaping in the supersized school.Brodsky shared the footage on Facebook, calling the rare spectacle “mind-blowing” and magical.The video quickly made a splash, raking in more than 3,000 “likes” as observers gushed over the finless phenomena.“Fabulous and rejuvenating! Long live a healthy Monterey Bay, and healthy oceans,”  one fan wrote.“Absolutely stunning!” another gushed.Northern right whale dolphins usually travel in smaller clusters of 100 or 200 but may have formed the bigger pod to fend off predators or feed together, experts said. They are the only species of dolphin in the northern Pacific region that have no dorsal fin, allowing them to leap more than 20 ft above the water.“They’re all smooth,” Brodsky said.“When they jump, they look like flying eyebrows.”Monterey Bay is a destination for marine wildlife enthusiasts and part of a national marine sanctuary.–With Post Wires...
