Saquon Barkley caps first Eagles season with historic contract

Fresh off becoming a Super Bowl champion, Saquon Barkley can add another title to his growing résumé: highest-paid NFL running back.The Eagles gave their star rusher a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension on Tuesday, per multiple reports, and it will make him the league’s first-ever $20 million-plus player at the position.The record-breaking contract includes $36 million fully guaranteed and up to $15 million in incentives and escalators, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.Barkley certainly did his part to earn the extra moolah.In his first season in Philly, after leaving the Giants for a three-year, $37.75 million deal in free agency, the 28-year-old ran for an NFL-best 2,005 yards with 13 touchdowns, adding another 278 receiving yards and two scores to his totals.He lead the NFL with 125.3 rushing yards per game in the regular season.The Penn State product turned it up a notch in the postseason, posting 499 yards on the ground over four games with five TDs en route to the first Super Bowl of his career.Barkley was the No.2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Giants....
