Pete Roses startling Hall of Fame premonition in last-known interview

Pete Rose seemed to think he would make the Hall of Fame posthumously despite never seeing his name on a ballot.In what is believed to be the MLB all-time hits leader’s final interview before his death at 83 on Sept.

30, 2024, Rose told Ohio-based sportscaster John Condit on Sept.20 what he believed would be the polarizing outcome of his longtime battle of getting Hall of Fame consideration. “I’ve come to the conclusion — I hope I’m wrong — that I’ll make the Hall of Fame after I die,” Rose said in the interview.

“Which I totally disagree with, because the Hall of Fame is for two reasons: your fans and your family.”“That’s what the Hall of Fame is for.Your fans and your family,” Rose went on.

“It’s for your family if you’re here.It’s for your fans if you’re here.

Not if you’re 10 feet under.”Rose was caught in 1989 gambling on games he was managing for the Cincinnati Reds.This landed him on the permanently ineligible list for the Hall of Fame.Rose admitted to betting on games he was managed but not games he played in.

He also persisted that he only ever bet on his team to win.MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is reportedly considering removing Rose from the ineligible list after a meeting with Rose’s eldest daughter, Fawn.In 2020, ESPN reported that Manfred believed the banned list was for punishing players in their lifetime and that they could be exonerated posthumously.With Manfred considering it, and even President Trump saying he would “pardon” Rose, MLB’s all-time leader in hits, singles, at-bats and games played could see his prophecy of making the Hall of Fame after his death fulfilled.“The Hall of Fame is for what you did on the field, not what you did off the field,” Rose said.But it still would not totally satisfy Rose as he would have wanted to see it happen while he was still here.“What good is it going to do me or my fans if they put me in the Hall of Fame couple years after I pass away?” Rose sa...
