Cooper Flaggs mom: Viral celebration was a big F-you to UNC fans

Nothing screams “college basketball rivalry” quite like the top player in the country’s mom cursing out a rival fan base.Cooper Flagg soared in for a slam in the waning moments of Duke’s 82-69 win over North Carolina on Saturday and the cameras on the ESPN broadcast immediately cut to Flagg’s mother, Kelly, as she went berserk doing the “on his head” celebration and appearing to scream “On his f–king head!” to any nearby Tar Heels fan who may have been within earshot.“The celebration was a moment of being so proud of our kid and also a big F-you to the entire Carolina fan base for being such classless a–holes,” Kelly posted to Facebook after the viral moment.“If you are a UNC fan and didn’t like it… tough! Better luck next time! Go Duke.”Flagg finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the contest as the Blue Devils improved to 28-3 overall and 19-1 in ACC play.
The win helped catapult Duke into the No.1 ranking on the latest AP poll.“I do realize that it wasn’t my best look.
However, if you actually know me and are a real friend of mine you weren’t shocked,” Flagg’s mom wrote. She added some context behind what fueled her to become so feisty in the moment.“We were taken aback by the crudeness of the UNC fans as we made our way into the arena,” Kelly said.“They continued to harass us with much worse being spewed in our direction as well as at our 18 year old son and his teammates throughout the entirety of the game.”Rivalries are what make college sports so unique, and Flagg’s mother is just another example of how testy things can get — even for a mother of a family from Maine with no ties to Duke until this past year. The 18-year-old Flagg currently projects as the consensus No.
