Jets sign Brandon Stephens, Andre Cisco in NFL free agency as secondary retooling begins

The Jets began remaking their secondary on the first day of free agency Monday.The team reached agreements with Ravens free agent cornerback Brandon Stephens and Jaguars free agent safety Andre Cisco, according to sources.The team also tendered safety Tony Adams, who is a restricted free agent.Stephens’ deal is for three years and $36 million with $23 million guaranteed.

Cisco agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal.The deals cannot become official until Wednesday, when the league year begins.Stephens, 27, steps into the void created when D.J.

Reed agreed to join the Lions on a three-year, $48 million contract.Reed had been the Jets’ starter for the past three seasons.Follow the Post’s NFL Free Agency live coverageNow, Sauce Gardner will have a new partner starting across from him.The Ravens selected Stephens in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of SMU.

He began his career as a safety and the moved to cornerback, where he started 16 games in each of the last two seasons.He had two interceptions and 11 passes defensed in 2023 but his play slipped last year.

PFF rated him the 100th cornerback out of 116 graded.He gave up 72 receptions for 926 yards and five touchdowns, per PFF.

He also drew seven penalties — five pass interference calls and two holdings.Cisco walks into a safety room that has plenty of holes.It looks like Adams will now return after starting 26 games over the last two seasons, but Chuck Clark and Ashtyn Davis are both free agents.

The Jets gave Adams a first-of-right-refusal tender, which would be worth $3.2 million once he signs it.Cisco, who turns 25 later this month, was a third-round pick out of Syracuse in 2021 by the Jaguars.He started 47 games over four years in Jacksonville and had eight interceptions.Reed was not the only Jets starter from 2024 to depart on Monday.
