Eagles trade C.J. Gardner-Johnson after vulgar Travis Kelce comment

Another Super Bowl 2025 champion with the Eagles is on the move.Safety C.J.Gardner-Johnson has been traded to the Texans for former first-round guard Kenyon Green, NFL Network reported Tuesday.Philadelphia will also receive a 2026 fifth-round pick as part of the package, while Houston obtains Gardner-Johnson and a 2026 sixth-rounder.Gardner-Johnson had been on his second tour with the Eagles after signing a three-year, $27 million deal with the team last March.
He previously played in Philadelphia in 2022.The 27-year-old safety won his first Super Bowl with the Birds in February when they downed the Chiefs, 40-22.Gardner-Johnson was at the center of controversy following the championship contest when he posted a vulgar message aimed at Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his personal life.He doubled down on his message during the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade, wearing a hoodie that read: “Swifties can LIX my balls.”Although the Eagles retained star linebacker Zack Baun on a three-year, $51 million deal, their defense will look different in 2025.In addition to Gardner-Johnson’s departure, linebacker Josh Sweat is headed to Arizona after agreeing to a four-year deal worth $76.4 million with the Cardinals on Monday.The Eagles also released secondary veterans Darius Slay and James Bradberry.On the other side of the ball, Philadelphia added a new backup quarterback on Monday.They added Dorian Thompson-Robinson in a trade with the Browns for former first-round pick Kenny Pickett.Pickett served as Jalen Hurts’ backup last season after beginning his career in Pittsburgh in 2022.
