Body of missing toddler Dane Paulsen found in river after hundreds of volunteers searched for 10 days

Missing 2-year-old Dane Paulsen has been found dead in an Oregon river near his family’s home, 10 days into a frenzied search that drew in hundreds of volunteers.The toddler’s body was found by an independent diver on Tuesday morning in the Siletz River, about three miles downstream from his family’s home, which sits just 100 feet from other parts of the river, KGW8 reported.Police have long said there was no criminality suspected in his disappearance.Hundreds of volunteers had helped search for the boy, who was just out of his parents’ sight when he disappeared from their front yard near Highway 229 around 4:30 p.m.

on March 1.The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office had said that the 2-year-old was “friendly and fearless” and “comfortable around strangers and water” — but warned that he could not swim.The FBI also helped in the hunt, which included divers, K-9 units and drones.However, the body was ultimately recovered by an independent diver, Juan Heredia of the Angels Recovery Dive Team, who began searching areas downstream from where police divers looked.“Our thoughts are with the family, who are facing an unbearable sorrow,” Lincoln County Sheriff Adam Shanks said in a statement.“We are deeply grateful for the support and dedication shown by the search teams and our communities throughout this difficult time, though we wish it was under different circumstances,” Shanks added.
