ICE arrests 32K migrants in first 50 days of Trumps mass deportation raids and 70% are criminals

With President Trump back in office, ICE has made 32,000 arrests in the first 50 days of the new administration — and 70% are either facing charges or have been convicted of crimes, senior agency officials said Wednesday.The arrests have already “maxed out” ICE detention beds across the country.Of the illegal migrants nabbed by Trump’s ICE, 14,000 are convicted criminals, 10,000 have pending criminal charges and 8,700 do not have criminal records in the US, ICE officials told reporters.And it’s “just the start,” said acting ICE Director Todd Lyons.“We expect these ICE arrests and removal numbers will only go up as we unleash an agency that had its hands tied behind its back for the last four years,” said Lyons.However, ICE would not confirm how many illegal migrants have been deported so far.“President Trump campaigned on border security enforcement, the American people voted on it, and we are delivering it beyond anyone’s expectations,” said Lyons.The Trump administration’s ICE sweeps have already yielded nearly a quarter of the 114,000 arrests made last year, officials said.However, agency officials accused the Biden administration of “cooking the books” on ICE arrest data, saying they counted “tens of thousands” of migrants in their arrests when they were merely processing and releasing back into American communities.“The previous administration counted these arrests, even though no immigration enforcement action was taken,” said Lyons.As a result of the Trump administration’s mass deportation campaign, ICE has filled 47,600 detention beds and is asking Congress to fund additional space, while also recruiting assistance from other local and federal agencies that have existing capacity.In one effort to save resources, the Trump administration has asked illegal migrants to “self-deport” using the new CBP Home phone application.With little room for ICE’s targets, the agency has released an undisclosed number of migrants ...
