Elderly man slashed by stranger on Brooklyn subway, cops say

A man was slashed in the the head by a maniac with a large knife while riding the subway in Brooklyn — and the suspect was arrested when passengers flagged down cops at the next stop, cops said. The victim, 67, was on a northbound C train heading toward Jay Street around 6 p.m.Friday when the stranger cut him on the left side of his head in what appears to have been an unprovoked attack, the NYPD said.Passengers flagged down officers when the train pulled into the Jay Street station, a police spokesman said.
The knife was recovered on the scene, cops said.Peguy Simonise was charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury, a felony; menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, disorderly conduct and harassment, according to cops. His arraignment was pending Saturday afternoon.Simonise, 62, has four prior arrests, including rape and forcible touching in 2003, police said.The number of felony assaults are down in the subway so far this year, but the slashing is part of a spate of recent attacks in the city’s transit system.Earlier this year, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch flooded the system with cops after high profile attacks, including a woman who was fatally set aflame on a Brooklyn subway in December....
