Two long shot MLB betting picks for the 2025 season

The 2025 MLB season is technically underway, but Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday, March 27. That gives punters a few more days to put the finishing touches on their futures portfolio for the upcoming campaign. We highlighted a pair of long shots to consider before the Boys of Summer return. We’ll start this one off with a bang, and before you just flip the page and call me crazy, there is a path for the Pirates in 2025.You just have to squint a bit to see it. The most important thing to note for this punt — and remember, this is a 70/1 long shot — is that the NL Central is up for grabs.

The Chicago Cubs are the odds-on favorite to top the set at -110, but the Cubbies are far from a behemoth. If the Cubs struggle to live up to their modest expectations, this division gets blown wide open. The Milwaukee Brewers are pegged for a down year, and nobody is expecting much from the Cincinnati Reds or St.Louis Cardinals, either. The Pirates may be good enough to top this division, which is a big step toward giving this bet some legs. Pittsburgh’s lineup may not strike fear into anybody, but the Buccos do have an emerging star to build around in Oneil Cruz (who is an intriguing long shot to win MVP at 150/1).
