Co-workers of the Maui doctor who allegedly tried to murder his wife by shoving her off a Hawaii vista and beating her with a rock said they are shocked by the frightening allegations against the anesthesiologist — whom they described as “friendly” and “quiet.”Gerhardt Konig, 46, is accused of trying to push his wife, Arielle, off a popular hiking trail close to the Pali Lookout area on Oahu, after she reportedly refused to take a picture of him.Fellow medical professionals at Maui Memorial Medical Center — where Konig worked as an independent contractor — described him as “friendly” and “quiet,” reported Island News.Konig, who is originally from Pittsburgh, has since been suspended from working at the hospital.Arielle, 36, a successful nuclear scientist who married Konig in 2018, was also allegedly hit in the head with a rock multiple times.Konig also allegedly stabbed his wife with two syringes containing an unknown substance during the attack, according to preliminary investigations.He was stopped before he could throw his wife over the cliffside, according to the Honolulu Police Department.Arielle was rushed to the hospital on Monday in critical condition with head and facial injuries.Konig fled following the attack Monday morning, but was arrested the same evening.He faces attempted murder charges.The doctor previously worked in Pittsburgh, where he was an attending anesthesiologist at a women’s hospital and was an assistant professor of anesthesiology and bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine and Engineering, according to his biography....
