A former Trump administration official with a foothold in Washington, DC’s influential circles has been identified as the new owner of Vice President JD Vance’s previous home.Christopher Garcia, who briefly held posts in the Commerce Department during Donald Trump’s first term, secured the Alexandria, Virginia residence through a limited liability company, Forbes first reported. The transaction closed rapidly and exceeded the asking price by $172,000, according to property records reviewed by The Post.The final price paid: $1.87 million.The 2,530-square-foot, five-bedroom farmhouse, built in 1925 and featuring blue siding and a welcoming porch, was listed last month for $1.69 million after Vance relocated to the vice president’s official residence at the US Naval Observatory. Other perks inside this dwelling include an open family room with a woodburning fireplace, as well as an open kitchen with a hall pantry.The sale, finalized just last week, underscores a brisk market in the progressive-leaning Del Ray neighborhood.Garcia’s tenure in government was short-lived, but notable. Appointed acting director of the Minority Business Development Agency in 2017, Garcia later served as acting deputy director under Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross until 2018.
That’s when he was among four appointees ousted amid security clearance disputes, as reported by the Washington Post.Garcia has contested that account, but couldn’t be reached for comment.Since leaving public office, Garcia has carved a lucrative path. He registered as a lobbyist with the Livingston Group in 2019 and 2020, then co-founded Health Supply US with his father during the pandemic. The firm has secured $179 million in federal contracts, predominantly with the Defense Department, including $51 million earmarked for COVID-19 relief, per public records.
