How good would the new NYPD stats be if the left wasnt helping criminals?

Guess what? Turns out when you fight crime instead of enabling it, crime goes down.Witness the newest, extremely heartening numbers from the NYPD under Comissioner Jessica Tisch.Murders in the first quarter of 2025 are down 35% compared to Q1 in 2024, from 96 to 63. Shootings (from 182 to 140) and shooting victims (from 214 to 164) are both down big-time over the same period, about a 23% drop for both. We are back on track, in other words, to hit the historic lows the city saw in 2017 and 2018 for those categories of crimes — the result of years spent policing harder and smarter.A success that the left then used to rationalize its monstrous criminal justice “reforms,” including the no-bail law that lets even repeat perps keep walking and the discovery changes that spring even hardened thugs on meaningless technicalities. These results are, of course, directly attributable to Tisch’s leadership: fixing departmental dysfunction, beefing up police presence and ruthlessly focusing on quality-of-life issues that breed further disorder when unaddressed. If Tisch has accomplished this in the face of opposition from the left, imagine what she could do if she were unfettered. How many shootings, for example, could be prevented by reversing the state’s absurd Raise the Age law, which has enabled late-teen gangbangers to fire at will? How much more crime could be pared if cops weren’t hampered by the city’s idiotic “How Many Stops Act,” a law meant to discourage the police from doing their jobs with Kafkaesque paperwork requirements? And how many thugs and killers could be kept off the streets if our insane bail laws were changed to actually promote public safety instead of eroding it? New Yorkers want safe streets. It’s the political will of leftists on the City Council and in Albany that thwarts their desire — the same leftists whom Mayor Eric Adams recently slammed as “lawmakers who don’t believe we have a recidivism problem.” Commissioner Tis...
