Keith Hernandez caught on hot mic calling out piss-poor hitting as Mets-Marlins game drags on

Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets.A piece of a conversation that likely wasn’t meant to be heard on the air was caught by a hot mic during Wednesday’s Mets-Marlins broadcast on SNY, which was coming back from a commercial break in extra innings. Mets analyst Keith Hernandez could be heard saying “piss-poor hitting” when the telecast returned to loanDepot park for the top of the 11th inning. Several seconds of silence went by before play-by-play man Gary Cohen started talking, and music played underneath to signify the return from the commercial break. The unintended honest opinion came after an ugly showing in the 10th inning by both the Mets and Marlins, who were locked in a 4-4 tie. Despite Tyrone Taylor singling to put runners on the corners to start the 10th inning, Luis Torrens flied out, Francisco Lindor popped out to third and Juan Soto grounded out to end the frame without a run.It’s not as if the Marlins did much better, as Dane Myers got tagged out at the plate trying to score on a fielder’s choice with one out in the bottom half of the inning. Javier Sanoja later popped out to end any chance of Miami scoring in the bottom of the 10th. Baseball fans following along at home were quick to pick up on Hernandez’s hot mic moment on Wednesday and plenty seemed to get a kick out of it. “Long live Keith Hernandez,” one person posted. “No one hates anything more than Keith Hernandez hates bad baseball,” a second person wrote. “Keith Hernandez hot mic moments are some of my favorite Mets moments,” a third chimed in. On Monday, Hernandez had a different hilarious moment on the air — with his mic intentionally on — when he said on the air that he thought “oxymoron was an insult.” The Mets won on Wednesday in extra innings, 6-5....
