Colorado man charged with posing as wifes stalker ex-boyfriend, then murdering her mid-divorce

A twisted Colorado man impersonated his wife’s ex-boyfriend and stalked her for months — before beating and stabbing her to death as they were in the process of divorcing, authorities said.Daniel Krug’s murder trial is set to begin as early as Friday in the alleged slaughter of his wife Kristil, whose lifeless body was found on the garage floor inside their Broomfield home on Dec.14, 2023.Starting in fall 2023, Kristil, 43, began getting texts from someone claiming to be her old beau, asking if she wanted to “hook up” while he was in town. After she didn’t respond, more texts came flooding in from the same number – including ones that indicated she was being watched, like one message referring to her “loser husband.”The stalker also sent the mom of three creepy photos, including of her car in front of a dentist office where she had an appointment and one of her husband getting out of his car at work, CBS News reported.“Ill get rid of him and then we can be together,” the obsessed sender emailed her.
“U dont want him i know u want me.”Two days after Kristil’s body was found, cops arrested Daniel, 44, on first-degree murder, stalking and criminal impersonation charges.Cops located Kristil’s real ex-boyfriend, who had no recent messages on his devices, CBS News said.
He was also in Utah when the creepy photos were taken and sent to Kristil and was there at the time of her death.The ex, however, had contacted Kristil previously in 2002, 2005, 2010 and 2016 after they broke up in 2000.She and Daniel married in 2007.Daniel, meanwhile, called police asking them to do a welfare check on his wife because she hadn’t responded to his messages. When police found her dead, they discovered three of the home’s surveillance cameras – which Kristil’s mother said she installed because of the stalking – were not recording at the time of the slaughter, according to the arrest affidavit.
