The Issue: President Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs imposing an initial 10% baseline tax on all imports.The Post brilliantly sums up the bitter fruit to come following President Trump’s “Liberation Day” announcement of his world-wide reaching tariff regime (“Don’s tariffs rock globe,” March 4).More than likely, he has bitten off more than the American consumer and businesses chew.And, no doubt, this headlong move into the economic unknown could very well affect the midterm elections in a bad way for Trump’s second presidency.James HylandBeechhurstTrump just doesn’t get it.

He’s supposed to know so much about the economy, but clearly doesn’t understand how it works.He has imposed tariffs to bring manufacturing and jobs back to America.The fact is, our economy is not manufacturing-based and hasn’t been for years.

We are a service-based economy.Even if some companies bring back manufacturing, the number of actual jobs created will be minimal.With automation and robotics, fewer and fewer jobs are actually going to be created.So, what is it that Donald Trump doesn’t understand? He’s supposed to be a genius when it comes to the economy.

But he bankrupted six companies, so he obviously does not get it.Hank DePerroManhattanFinally, there is some semblance of international fair trade.Given the gross trade disparity, it is somewhat shocking that some of our allies are threatening retaliatory measures.Critics of President Trump’s plan should bear in mind that not one nation has disputed the trade statistics he outlined in the Rose Garden announcement.
