It’s the beginning of the end for “The Handmaid’s Tale.”The Hulu original, which aired its first season in 2017, returned for its sixth and final season today, April 8, with a three-episode premiere.Ahead of the season premiere, the series creator Bruce Miller shared with The Post that he’s known how it would all end since the very beginning.
“Honestly, the end of it is the same as I pitched to Lizzie [Elisabeth Moss] the first time I met her,” he said.While “The Handmaid’s Tale” is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, the first season adapts the entire book and every subsequent season has been the invention of the writers, along with input from Atwood.Set in a dystopia following a Second American Civil War, the Elisabeth Moss-starring series follows a society that fertile women, called “Handmaids,” to child-bearing slavery.
Moss is not only acting in this season, but she directed four of its 10 episodes (the first and last two).The large ensemble cast is also largely unchanged, but some new additions, including “Veep” actor Timothy Simons, will make their series debuts this season.Throughout its run, the acclaimed series was nominated for 75 Emmy awards, winning 15.
