Amanda Nunes announced as latest member of UFC Hall of Fames Class of 2025

The Lioness is where she belongs, at last.Amanda Nunes, the former two-division UFC champion who retired from fighting nearly two years ago and is considered by many to be the women’s MMA GOAT, was announced Saturday night in Miami as the latest member of the UFC Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.The announcement in the arena, which the broadcast team said on air was a surprise to Nunes, during UFC 314 brought the fighting legend to tears.The UFC will honor its latest Hall of Fame inductees with a ceremony during its 13th Annual UFC International Fight Week, on June 26 as T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.“Amanda Nunes is the greatest female fighter of all-time,” UFC president and CEO Dana White said in a statement released by the organization.“Amanda was a great champion who had one of the most legendary careers in combat sports history.
She is an incredible person, and it will be an honor to induct her into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.”Nunes (23-5, 17 finishes) will become a member of the Modern Wing — for those who turned pro after the November 2000 event when the UFC first adopted the unified rules of MMA.Joining Nunes as part of the Class of 2025 are previously announced former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, creator of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series Craig Piligian and the 2019 fight between Israel Adesanya vs.Kelvin Gastelum.Nunes, who early in her career trained out of Whippany, N.J., grew from a talented but inconsistent prospect to one of the UFC’s most dominant forces.The Brazilian won her first championship in 2016, blasting Miesha Tate to claim the bantamweight crown and raised her profile at the end of the year by putting crossover star Ronda Rousey away in just 48 seconds.Before 2018 was out, Nunes became the promotion’s first woman to hold two championships simultaneously when she knocked out fellow fighting legend Cris Cyborg in 51 seconds, adding the featherweight title to her trophy case.Nunes ran her run to 12 straigh...
