Giants take star QB Jaxson Dart after franchise-altering 2025 NFL Draft trade

Joe Schoen double-dipped and perhaps finally solved the Giants’ franchise quarterback woes. With Penn State star pass rusher Abdul Carter already selected with the No.3 pick, the Giants traded back into the first round to select quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No.
25 pick on Thursday night. They sent Houston picks Nos.34 (second round), 99 (third round) and a third-rounder in 2026.This trade now gives Schoen, the general manager, and coach Brian Daboll their first chance at building around the prospect they want for the sport’s most critical position. The Giants had their choice of quarterbacks with Shedeur Sanders also still available — but are trying their luck with another Ole Miss product like Eli Manning. That trade for Manning is arguably the best in franchise history and the Giants can only hope that this transaction is remembered in the same manner.Dart was shown at home celebrating with his family — letting out a celebratory scream and hugging his mom — after the phone call from the team.He told The Post earlier in the week that he would welcome being the Giants’ quarterback.“It’s a historic and legendary organization to play for,” Dart told The Post’s Jenna Lemoncelli.
“And all I can say is I’ll turn up the city and win a lot of games and win Super Bowls.”The Giants needed a quarterback after the Daniel Jones era flamed out.Schoen and Daboll inherited Jones from the previous regime, although Schoen did extend Jones after his their first season together, which included a playoff run, in a move that did not pan out.Rather than stay put until their second-round selection — pick No.34 — and potentially let other teams jump them, the Giants used valuable draft capital to get their guy.The Giants are set up to allow Dart to learn under Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston before taking the reins, although he could potentially work his way into the Week 1 lineup....
