In one day, the Blue Jays pitcher gave up six runs on five walks and two hits, got pulled from the game, was later ejected and as he was jawing at the umpire, he fell down the clubhouse stairs. Ouch! The YES Network cameras hilariously caught Gausman’s tumble – he was alright – during the first game of a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. The clip showed the right-hander walking down the dugout yelling in the direction of the umpire out on the field. The irate Gausman reached the stairs and took one step down but looked back onto the field to continue to yell. But when he did that, he seemed to lose his footing and went tumbling down out of the sight of the camera. It was certainly the icing on the cake on a day that clearly was not going the way Gausman had hoped. “Some days things don’t work out for you, Michael,” one of the YES Network broadcasters said. Gausman got tossed after the disastrous third inning, which saw him throw 53 pitches in the frame while surrendering the six runs to the Yankees. The Elias Sports Bureau reported that it had been the most pitches anyone had thrown in a single inning since the Pirates’ Cam Vieaux had 56 during a game against the Brewers on July 1, 2022. Gausman’s previous high for pitches in an inning had been 44 back when he was with Baltimore in 2017. Home-plate umpire Chris Conroy tossed the Blue Jays starter on his way out of the game, which wasn’t too much of a shock since he had not liked several of the calls while he was on the mound. Toronto skipper John Schneider found himself being ejected in the fifth after arguing a strike. The Yankees won the game 11-2 and will look to sweep the doubleheader and win the series.
